Benson: Mrs. Melverine P. Langdon Coates, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, June 11, 2016 following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be 3:00PM Wednesday at St. Mary's Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church, Benson, NC. Officiating will be Pastor David Langley. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Smithfield.
Melverine was born on December 8, 1928 in Johnston County to the late Tom and Ava Johnson Parrish. She loved to spend time with her family and friends, and she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She spent many years as a faithful caregiver to her parents and in-laws. Although she will be missed, her family is thankful that she is no longer suffering and is reunited with her many loved ones in heaven.
Melverine was predeceased by her first husband, Marvin R. Langdon, and her second husband, Roy C. Coates. She was a member of St. Mary's Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church.
She is survived by children, Steve Langdon & wife, Louise, of Benson, Phil Langdon & wife, Cathy, of Benson, Andy Langdon & wife, Wyndee, of Pittsboro, Ray Langdon of Benson and Ronda Langdon Johnson & husband, Phil, of Benson; grandchildren, Cindy Heffron & husband, Dan, Christy Parker & husband, John, Scott Langdon, Travis Langdon, & wife, Carroll, Blake Langdon & wife, Carol, Emily Langdon, Kevin Langdon & wife, Barbara, and Olivia Langdon; seven great grandchildren; brothers, Paul Parrish of Charlotte and Shelton Parrish of Benson; and nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at St. Mary's Grove OFWB Church Wednesday from 1:30PM to 2:45PM prior to the service and other times at the home.
Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Grove OFWB Church, 7970 Raleigh Road, Benson, NC 27504.
The family would like to thank Ruby Locklear and Quanita Cummings for the excellent care they gave to Melverine for the past two years.
