Sneads Ferry, NC: Mr. Melvin Barbour, age 81, formerly of Coats passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Graveside Services will be 3:00PM Sunday, September 19, 2021 at Lakeside Memorial Gardens in Angier.
Mr. Barbour was born on September 11, 1940 in Johnston County to the late Marvin Lovejoy and Mary Anna Wood Barbour. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jr. Barbour, Roy Barbour, Wade Barbour, J.C. Barbour; sisters, Mary Lou Barbour, Ernestine Barbour Maynard. Mr. Barbour owned and operated Melvin Barbour’s Tile for most of his life. He had a passion for restoring old cars and spending time in his workshop.
Surviving include his children, Chris Barbour and wife, Monica of Sneads Ferry, Joey Barbour of Coats; grandchildren, Crystal Blalock and husband, David and Candace Garriss and husband, Blake; great-grandchildren, Waylon and Liam; step-grandchildren, Billy Howell and wife, Rachel, Ronnie Howell and fiancé, Jenny Tyndall; step-grandchildren, Isabella and David; sister, Elsie Tart of Dunn; special friend, Peggy Clark of Sneads Ferry; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson and other times at the home of Mrs. Frances Barbour, 227 Union Grove Church Road Dunn, NC 28334.
In accordance with NC-COVID19 guidelines, the funeral home suggests practicing social distancing guidelines and the three W's: wait, wash, and wear a face covering. Face coverings are not required, but are kindly recommended for all services.
