Merle Bryant Snead

Mrs. Merle Bryant Snead, age 87, passed away Monday, November 22, 2021 at High-Smith Rainey Hospital in Fayetteville, NC. Graveside Funeral Services will be held 2:00PM-Friday, November 26, 2021at Antioch United Methodist Church Cemetery outside Four Oaks, NC. Rev. Walter Gaskins will officiate.

Mrs. Snead was born on December 4, 1933 to the late Milton C. and Ida Johnson Bryant. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Zeke Lee and David Garner Snead, brothers, Waylon Bryant and Harold Bryant; sisters, Ada Kelly and Eva Strickland; son-in-law, Harry Denton and a granddaughter-in-law, Brenda Warren. Mrs. Snead retired from the Johnston County Jail as a secretary. Mrs. Snead was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church outside Four Oaks. She loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and she loved others as herself. She enjoyed her garden, her birds, and her squirrels, and loved the smell of her giant gardenias. Each year she waited for the arrival of spring where her azaleas bloomed. Her delight was cooking for her family at holiday gatherings. She had a strong sense of serving the community by participating with cake donations for bake sales, fundraisers, and special events. Mrs. Snead was ever faithful to remember grieving neighbors with a meal, cake or pies. She exhibited her loved of her Lord by her quiet sprit and never speaking out of turn. She loved her neighbors and “Her children rise up and call her blessed of the Lord”. Proverbs 31:28.

Surviving include her children, Jimmy and Donna Lee, Glenda Denton, Charlotte and Tommy Spradling, and Jane Batten; grandchildren, Joshua Lee and wife Kristen, Jordan Lasater and husband Brad, Jamie Warren, Angela Ingram and husband Chris, Barry Godwin and wife Linda, Tracie Core and husband Brian, and Melissa Woodell; many great-grandchildren; sister, Elgie Jackson and husband Jerry; brother, Linwood Bryant and wife Willa Dean; many nieces and nephews.

Jane's parents were friends with my family and will always be a memory with us. Very respected in our town and never be forgotten. My God be with your mother and now pain free.

I was so sorry to learn of Mrs. Merle's passing. I only met her a couple of times in person, but she was a kind, sweet lady, and my Uncle Hayden thought a lot of her. She and I exchanged FB messages and Christmas cards over the past few years. I'm glad I knew her. I know she will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. My condolences.
