Moody "M.T." Strickland, Jr.

Coats, NC:  Mr. Moody Taft “M. T.” Strickland, Jr., age 77, of 20 Whippoorwill Drive died Monday, June 25, 2012, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. Funeral services will be 11:00AM Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at South Erwin Baptist Church in Erwin. Officiating will be Rev. Ronnie Byrd. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery in Dunn. Mr. Strickland was born October 26, 1934 in Sampson County to the late Moody Tart Strickland, Sr. and Alene Norris Strickland. He was the co-owner and manager of Carlie C’s IGA in Coats.  Mr. Strickland served in the U. S. Army and was a past member of the Coats Lions Club, Coats Junior Order, and Coats Fire & Rescue.  He received the 1984 Coats Man of the Year award and was a past City Councilman for the Town of Coats.  Mr. Strickland served on the original Board of Directors of the Coats Senior Center. He was a member of South Erwin Baptist Church and served as a deacon.   Surviving are his Wife of 58 years, Doris Barefoot Strickland; Daughters & Sons-in-Law, Sharon & Doug Stevens of Coats, Debbie & Ty Clary of Mt. Ulla, NC, Sheila & Randy Corriher of Rockwell, NC, and Kathy & Tim Peede of Coats; Sisters, Joyce S. McLamb and husband, Carlie C., of Dunn and Jan S. Dempster of Raleigh; Brother, Kilby Strickland and wife, Elaine, of Charlotte; 8 Grandchildren; and 6 Great Grandchildren. Family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Coats from 6:00PM to 9:00PM Tuesday, June 26, 2012. Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to South Erwin Baptist Church Building Fund, 144 Old Cut Off Road, Erwin, NC  28339.
