Four Oaks, NC: Mrs. Neta Lee Barbour Womble, age 84, of Reedy Creek Road died Saturday, September 24, 2022 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Graveside Services will be held 11:00AM- Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at St. Mary’s Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, Benson, NC. Officiating will be Rev. Wesley Taylor.
Mrs. Womble was born on March 20, 1938 in Johnston County to the late James Alton “Snook” and Ellie Mae Ryals Barbour. She was preceded in death by daughter, Pansy Arlene Byrd Grimes; grandson, William Gautier; brothers, Preston Barbour and Bradford Barbour. Mrs. Womble had a genuine compassion for the health and well-being of all, especially youth and senior citizens. She was well known for her recreational talents which she shared with others in the assisted living and nursing home communities and sat with scores of sick and shut-ins.
Mrs. Womble spent many enjoyable hours sewing for the public and making children and doll clothes for “Operation Christmas Child” shoeboxes. She was lovingly known as the “Bingo Lady” every Tuesday at 3:00PM at the 210 McDonald’s. No one was a bigger Elvis fan than her. She named her drive way the Elvis Presley Blvd. and collected remarkable memorabilia and took many bus trips. Mrs. Womble was an active member of St. Mary’s Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church where she served the Lord in many capacities. She was Youth Director, member of the choir, Woman’ s Auxiliary Cottage Prayer “Son-Shiners”, Recycled Teens Recreation Coordinator, and co-founded the new “4-C’s” Crafters Club.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Wyatt Donald Womble; son, Todd Byrd ( Amy Dunn) of Four Oaks; grandchildren, Zachary Tidechild of Salida, Colorado, Holli Gautier of Asheville, NC, Erin Byrd of Garner; step-daughter, Marie Womble Mason (Scott) of Roanoke Rapids; step-grandchildren, Hannah and Baylor Roberson of Jacksonville, NC, Joey Roberson of Roanoke Rapids; sisters and brothers, Brenda Faye Barbour of Benson, Betty Elaine Horne (Pittman) of Autryville, Billy Wayne Barbour of Angier; several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends from 6:00PM – 8:00PM on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson and other times at the home of Todd Byrd, 987 Berea Church Road, Four Oaks, NC 27524.
In lieu of flowers; memorials may be made to Recycled Teens, c/o Annette Murphy, St. Mary’s Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church, 7970 Raleigh Road Benson, NC 27504.
