Oliver Hollis

Coats, NC: U.S. Army Retired Command Sergeant Major Oliver Hollis, age 80, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2022 at his residence. Graveside Funeral Services will be 2:00PM-Sunday, July 17, 2022 at Coats City Cemetery in Coats, NC.  Revs. Everette Faircloth and Tim Batten will officiate.

U.S. Army Retired Command Sergeant Major Oliver Hollis was born on December 15, 1941 in Georgia, to the late Wilbert and Eula Thomas Hollis.  He proudly served our Country in the US Army Special Forces as a Green Beret. While serving in the US Army, CSM Hollis received many decorations, medals, badges, commendations, citations and ribbons.  Following his retirement, he also retired from the North Carolina Department of Corrections.  He also taught ROTC at Rutgers University, Campbell University, Pembroke University, and UNC Wilmington. He was a member of Pleasant Plains Baptist Church, Buies Creek, NC.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Billie Jean Wiggs Hollis; sisters, Shirin Hollis, Peggy Davis, and Janice Hollis; several nieces and nephews, and two children.

There will be an open-door visitation from 2:00PM-5:00PM on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Coats, NC.  The family will not be present during this time.

The family will receive friends following the graveside service on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at Coats City Cemetery.

The family wishes to express appreciation to Jacob Pace, Brooke McLeod and Heartland Hospice for their loving care shown to Mr. Hollis.
