Patricia Lane Medlin Blackman

Benson (Meadow Community), NC: Mrs. Patricia Lane Medlin Blackman, age 83, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2023 at UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh. Funeral Services will be 11:00AM – Friday, February 3, 2023 at Hood’s Grove Baptist Church in Newton Grove. Officiating will be Revs. Frank Sandy and Bobby Harrell. Burial will follow in the Hood’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Newton Grove.

Mrs. Pat was born in the Elevation Community of Johnston County, NC to the late John G. Medlin, Sr. and Mabel Stephenson Medlin.  She was also preceded in death by her brother, John G. Medlin, Jr. She was a graduate of the Cosmetology School in Raleigh and retired from Vena Wilburn Elementary School, where she was a Child Nutritionist. Mrs. Pat was a member of Hood’s Grove Baptist Church where she served by teaching Sunday School to kids as well as a member of the WMU. She also served her community by delivering meals on wheels with her beloved, Graden. Mrs. Pat loved playing in the floor with her youngest grandson, Malcolm, spending time with her family, gardening, and fishing with her sweetheart, Graden. She led her family with fierce love and faith. Mrs. Pat was a true example of God’s love. 

Mrs. Pat is survived by her husband of 65 years, Alex Graden Blackman to whom she was the love of his life; son, Alex Blackman, Jr.; daughters, Debbie Harrell and husband, Bobby, Cindy Cole and husband, Bill; grandchildren, Jason, Heather and husband, Michael, Ben and wife Stephanie, Abigail Harrell, Malcolm Blackman, great-grandchildren, Raleigh Cole, Liberty Cole and Jackson Harrell; brothers, Jerry Medlin and wife, Libbie Jean and Tracy Medlin and wife, Anna; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 2, 2023 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Hood’s Grove Baptist Church, 677 Hood Grove Church Road, Newton Grove, NC 28366 and other times at the home.
