Dunn, NC: Mrs. Patricia “Pat” Lane Byrd Ellis, age 73, of 1010 Friendly Road died peacefully Sunday, September 1, 2013, at her residence surrounded by her loving and grateful family. Funeral Services will be 11:00AM Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at Hodges Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Herbert Carter. Entombment will follow in Devotional Gardens.
Pat was born October 20, 1939 in Harnett County to the late Reverend Ralph O. and Marjorie Matthews Byrd. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Billie Jean Garriss; brother, Reverend Ronnie Byrd; and a niece, Tommie Byrd.
Along with her devoted husband, Pat dedicated her life to God and Condary’s pastoral ministry at Stoney Run, Erwin Chapel, Hodges Chapel, Miller’s Chapel and Beulaville Pentecostal Free Will Baptist churches where she faithfully involved herself with the choirs and women’s ministries. Pat’s professional career was spent with Farm Credit where she worked through various positions and ultimately retired as office manager. She also was passionate about volunteering with Betsy Johnson Hospital. She was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary and was the bookkeeper for the hospital gift shop.
In addition to her faith and family, Pat loved fun. She added warmth and laughter to any room with her delightful sense of humor. Family and friends will forever remember her sayings, her stories, and her advice. Pat bravely took on the challenges of pulmonary fibrosis and fought as hard as she could for her family. The family extends grateful appreciation to the entire staff of Vidant Hospital in Greenville and Betsy Johnson of Dunn. The compassionate care she received was heartfelt and the family appreciates every act of kindness and love extended by friends and churches throughout the area.
Surviving are, husband of 52 years, Reverand Condary Ellis; son & daughter-in-law, Condary, III & Elaine Ellis of Dunn; daughter & son-in-law, Sheree & Michael Ammons of Coats; sisters, Judy Bandy of Virginia Beach, VA and Sherry Royal of Coats; brother, Larry Byrd of Coats; and grandchildren, Jordan & Taylor Ellis and Matthew & Corey Ammons.
Family will receive friends at Hodges Chapel PFWB Church, 780 Hodges Chapel Road, Benson, NC from 6:00PM to 8:00PM Tuesday, September 3, 2013.
