Phillip "Phil" Mobley

August 29, 1956 — April 15, 2016

Phillip Earl Mobley, 59, died at his home on April 15th after a courageous 11 year battle with colon cancer. A memorial service will be held at 6:00PM-Monday, April 18, 2016 at Apex United Methodist Church, with visitation to follow in the Crossroads area at the church.  Pastors Gray Southern and Danny Berrier will be officiating.  Committal Service will be 12:00PM-Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Johnson’s Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church at 5386 Johnson’s Chapel Road, Benson, N.C. Phil grew up in Williamston, N.C and later graduated from Lenoir Community College with a degree in Electronics.  In 1977, he moved to Raleigh and began a 16 year career at IBM in Research Triangle Park.  After leaving IBM, he worked with the Wake County Public School System for 17 years, the last few years in Quality Assurance.  Phil was always ready to help others and was known as “Mr. Fix-It” among his friends. He loved to talk and always had a story to tell.  He enjoyed the company of others, and never missed a gathering.  Phil’s favorite past times were attending his son, Spencer’s, bluegrass performances, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with friends and family at Lake Gaston out on the boat.  He loved to fish, but somehow never had much luck catching them.  No doubt there is a lake full of fish just waiting to be caught by Phil when he gets to Heaven! Phil’s greatest joy was his family.  His son, Spencer, was the light of his life.  Sylvia, his wife, was his best friend and soulmate for 33 years.  Phil loved his many dear friends, church family, and extended family. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sylvia Moore Mobley; son, Spencer Phillip Mobley of Cary; sister, Denise Worsnop and husband Herb Worsnop of Jensen Beach, Florida; brother, Bruce Mobley and wife Karen of Greenville, NC; mother-in-law Jean Moore of Benson; brother and sister-in-law, Hayden and Deborah Moore of Raleigh, brothers-in-law, Steve Moore of Durham and Stephen Kane of Durham; nieces, Kimberly Moore of Raleigh and Michelle Moore of Fairfax, VA.  Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Earl and Sallie Mobley of Williamston, NC.  The family would like to give a special thanks to: our close friends, family, Shepherds Sunday school class, and Apex United Methodist Church for the love and support you’ve shown us over Phil’s 11 year valiant fight against cancer. Special thanks to Dr. Maha Elkordy and to Lynne and Jan, two very special nurses at Rex Cancer Center of Cary.  Also, special thanks to the staff at Transitions LifeCare.  Your care and compassion will never be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, Phil's request was that memorials maybe sent to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, TN, 38105 or to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 2900 Ricky Point Drive, Tampa, Florida, 33607
