Rachel Peedin Johnson

Smithfield, NC: Mrs. Rachel Peedin Johnson, age 98, of Black Creek Road passed away on Monday, March 22, 2021 at her home with her family by her side. Graveside Services will be 3:00PM Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Sunset Memorial Park in Smithfield. Officiating will be Rev. Fallon Melvin. Mrs. Johnson was born in Johnston County on April 18, 1922 to the late James Larkin and Sarah Catherine Boykin Peedin.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Norwood Ambrose Johnson; a son, James Norwood Johnson; and a grandson, Jonathan Brian Johnson. Mrs. Johnson was a manager for Cato’s and worked for Farm Bureau Insurance Company. She was a member of Hopewell Free Will Baptist Church. Surviving include her children, David Albert Johnson and wife, Lana of McColl of SC, Anna Johnson of Kure Beach, NC; grandchildren, Bobby Melvin and wife, Amy, Johanna Johnson Roller and husband, David, James Anthony Johnson and wife, Cheryl, David Chandler Johnson and wife, Tracey; eleven great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sister, Wilma Peedin Oliver Baker of Pine Level; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends following the graveside service. In lieu of flowers; memorials may be made to Hopewell Free Will Baptist Church 5835 Blackcreek Road Smithfield, NC 27577. In Accordance with NC-COVID -19 guidelines, the funeral home suggests practicing social distancing and the three W’s: wait, wash, and wear a face covering.
