Benson, NC: The Reverend Donald Marshall Price Sr., age 80, went to dwell eternally with our Savior on March 17, 2016. Funeral Services will be 3:00 PM Sunday at Benson Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Paul Burgess, Dr. Vernon Tyson, Dr. Talmadge Williams, Dr. Robert Cooke, Rev. Ken Price, Rev. Terry Wingate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery, Benson.
Rev. Price was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on January 8, 1936 to the late English Marshall and Geneva Goodwin Price. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles K. Price. Rev. Price graduated from West Mecklenburg High School in 1954, and attended Mars Hill College, Carson-Newman College, and graduated with a Master of Divinity Degree Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1962. Together with his wife, Sue, he served God as a pastor to His people at Salem Baptist Church, Fishing Creek Baptist Church, Mingo Baptist Church, West Oxford Baptist Church, Benson Baptist Church, Princeton Baptist Church, and Pauline Baptist Church.
In addition to his pastoral work, Rev. Price served on the Executive Committee of the General Board of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, on the General Board of the Convention, and on the Committee on Committees of the Convention. Don served in various capacities in the Flat River Association including Moderator of the Flat River Baptist Hour radio program and Chairman of the Pastors Conference. In the Johnston Baptist Association he served as Chairman of Evangelism and as a member of various other committees. Don was the President of the Benson Ministerial Association for four years. While at Benson Baptist Church he served as the Chaplain of the Days Inns of America for eighteen years, as Volunteer Chaplain of Johnston Memorial Hospital for ten, and on the Benson Recreation Committee for two. Don was a member of the Board of Ministers of Campbell University for many years. He was honored to be selected to Who's Who in Religion in 1980 and to be given the opportunity to offer the opening prayer for the Senate of North Carolina in 1983 and 1985.
Don loved God's holy word, communion with His people, and all aspects of being a Christian in the service of Jesus Christ. He enjoyed having fun and was known for his sense of humor and pranks. He was passionate about his ministry spent his life visiting and "declaring the wonderful grace of Jesus Christ, binding up the sick and broken hearted, equipping His Church to minister effectively in our world" (quote from his resume). Rev. Price considered himself blessed to have served God on numerous mission trips including to Alaska.
Surviving are his wife, Sue Griffin Price; son and daughter-in-law, Marshall and Leigh Anne Price of Princeton; daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Timothy Tart of Benson; granddaughters, Shannon and Mattie Tart, Anna Brown and husband, Jason, and Macie Price; and a brother, Hal Price; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Saturday and other times at the home of Suzanne and Timothy Tart, 506 S. Lincoln Street Benson, NC 27504.
