Rev. Ronald "Ronnie" Byrd

Coats, NC:  Rev. Ronald “Ronnie” Joseph Byrd, age 63, of 2814 Erwin Chapel Road died Friday, April 5, 2013, at Duke Health Raleigh. Funeral services will be 11:00AM Monday, April 8, 2013, at South Erwin Baptist Church, Erwin. Officiating will be Rev. Jesse Mooney, Rev. Condary Ellis, and Mr. Jeremy Byrd. Burial will follow in Lakeside Memorial Gardens in Angier.     Rev. Byrd was born October 5, 1949 in Harnett County to the late Rev. Ralph O. and Margorie Matthews Byrd.   He was also preceded in death by a sister, Billie Jean Garris. After graduating from Coats High School, he and his family operated the Byrd Family Farms and served in the U. S. Army Reserve.  Rev. Byrd worked with the Harnett County Department of Social Services until 2000 and entered the ministry in 1984.  He was the minister of South Erwin Baptist Church and was currently on the Board of Directors of Heritage Bible College.     Surviving are wife, Cathy Peede Byrd; daughter & son-in-law, Melissa B. & Steven Pope of Coats; son & daughter-in-law, Jeremy & Paula Byrd of Coats; sisters & brothers-in-law, Pat & Condary Ellis of Dunn, Judy & Lee Bandy of Virginia Beach, and Sherry & Wayne Royal of Coats; brother & sister-in-law, Larry & Peggy Byrd of Coats; brother-in-law, Franklin Garris of Coats; and grandchildren, Hannah Byrd, Kelsey Byrd, Dustin Byrd, Grant Pope, and Landon Pope.     Family will receive friends at South Erwin Baptist Church Sunday, April 7, 2013, from 5:00PM to 8:00PM.     Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to South Erwin Baptist Church Building Fund, 144 Old Cut Off Road, Erwin, NC  28339.
