Four Oaks, NC: Reverend Larry Richard "Ricky" Byrd, age, 72, of E. Sanders Street, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Barbour's Chapel Advent Christian Church. Mr. Rodney Barbour will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Ricky was born on September 20, 1947 in Johnston County to Zora West Byrd of Four Oaks and the late Rayford M. Byrd. He retired from the US Army (ARNGUS) as a recruiter. After his service to our country, he retired as the service officer with the Johnston County Veterans Office in Smithfield. He also served as past president of the Four Oaks Civitan, and also as the Lieutenant Governor of the North Carolina East Civitan. Ricky received the call into the ministry and faithfully served as the Pastor of Barbour's Chapel Advent Christian Church outside Four Oaks.
Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife of 51 years, Susie Wood Byrd; sister-in-law, Joan Clark and husband, Jim; brothers-in-law, Eddie Wood and wife, Karen; and Gary Wood, Sr. and wife, Jenise; nieces and nephews, Cindy Tant and husband, Scott; Gary Wood, Jr., and wife, Joanie; Charlie Wood and Chris Adams; great-nieces and nephews, Blakely, Eli, Garah and Weston; special family friend, Ralph Hayes; many loving friends and extended family.
The family will receive friends 6:00PM-8:00PM, Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Four Oaks and other times at the home.
Flowers are welcomed, however the family suggest memorials to Barbour's Chapel Advent Christian Church, PO Box 357, Four Oaks, NC 27524.
