The family will receive friends from 3:00PM to 3:45PM on Sunday, May 19, 2024 in the fellowship hall prior to the service and other times at the home on Joyner Bridge Road.
Roy Lee was born on October 29, 1949 in Johnston County to the late Rev. Leroy Massengill and Verna Beasley Woodall. He was preceded in death by his son, Charles Lee Massengill; and sisters, Ann Massengill and Becky Sue Massengill. Roy Lee was a retired farmer. He worked diligently and enjoyed growing tobacco, corn, peaches, sweet potatoes, peanuts, soybeans, and a big vegetable garden to share. Roy Lee was a retired volunteer fireman with Strickland’s Crossroads Fire Department and was a US Army Veteran. He gave his life to the Lord on November 4, 1997. Since that day he has testified for the Lord. Even during the pain filled last 25 days of his life he continued to witness to the nurses and doctors. Summer, his Physical Therapist told him she was going to the mountains for a wedding and he took her by the hand and prayed for safe travels. Roy Lee said the suffering he experienced in the hospital was nothing compared to what Jesus endured for us to have salvation. His last words would be to all, “Get Saved, Get Right with God.” PRAISE THE LORD!!
Surviving are his wife of 18 years, Von Allen Massengill; daughter, Doris M. Woodall and husband, Ronnie of Benson; grandchildren, Erin W. Reese and husband, Kevin, John Robert Massengill, Mariah Sha Clark and husband, Dylan, and Alex Woodall; great-grandchildren, Aiden Reese, Ellis Reese, Jaxon Clark, and Willow Clark; sister, Gwinda Hardee of Benson; and several special nieces.
The Roy Lee Massengill Family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Wake Medical Center for their compassionate care. They also would like to thank the community at large for the many prayers during his hospital stay. Most of all the family is praising the Lord for the assurance of spending an eternity with him and our Savior in Heaven.
