Mrs. Ruby Norris Parker, age 86, resident of Liberty Commons died Friday. Funeral services will be 3:00PM Sunday at Lee’s Chapel Advent Christian Church. Officiating will be Revs. Steve Lawson, Della Grace Hargis, and Joey Yow. Entombment will follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Johnston County on June 8, 1928, she was the daughter of the late John Lewis and Vadie Blackmon Norris. She was also preceded in death by her husband Joseph B. Parker, Jr. in 2001. After having her family, Ruby went back to school and graduated from Four Oaks High School in 1959, where she was Sec. and Treasurer of her class.
She graduated from Campbell College in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and an advanced certificate in reading.
Ruby taught school at Meadow School for seventeen years. She was a member of the NCRGEA and the NRTA. She was a member of Lee’s Chapel Advent Christian Church, where she had helped with the youth group.
Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Teresa P. and Gene Stanley of Four Oaks; sons and daughters-in-law, Lewis and Carolyn Parker of Four Oaks and Benny and Debbie Parker of Little River, SC; grandchildren, John Thomas Parker, Lewis Scott Parker, Kimberly Suzette P. Sellers, Robbie Brice Parker, and Genia Lynn Stanley; and eight great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM Saturday at Lee’s Chapel Advent Christian Church and at other times at the homes of Teresa P. Stanley, 2164 Blackmon Rd, Four Oaks and Lewis Parker, 909 E. Sanders St., Four Oaks.
