Coats, NC: Mr. Rupert Nye Honeycutt, age 88, of Coats died Sunday, December 21, 2014, at Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at Rose and Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Coats. Officiating will be Rev. Jesse Mooney. Burial will follow in Coats City Cemetery.
Mr. Honeycutt was born February 26, 1926 in Harnett County. He was the son of the late Artemus Nye and Lessie Clark Honeycutt. He was preceded in death by his sister, Celia H. Wooten, and a brother, Leon B. Honeycutt. Rupert was a veteran of World War II and served in the infantry in the European Theater at the Battle of the Bulge. After serving in the military, he dedicated his life to farming. He was active in the Coats Hunting and Fishing Club and served on the Board of Directors for the Farmers Home Administration. He was an avid quail hunter, field trial participant and had a passion for training and raising champion bird dogs, producing many winners. One of his greatest delights was his grandchildren and great grandchild.
Surviving include his wife of 67 years, Geraldine Stephenson Honeycutt; son, Dan C. Honeycutt and wife, Teresa, of Coats; daughter, Debbie H. Turlington and husband, Kent, of Coats; grandchildren,. Kyle Turlington and wife, Lucia, Curt Honeycutt and wife, Ashley, Kathryn Turlington Sills and husband, Kevin, and Lance Honeycutt; great grandson, Luke Turlington; brothers, Robert (Bobby) Honeycutt and wife, Marie, of Raleigh and James R. Honeycutt and wife, Lena of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Coats from 12:30Pm to 1:30 PM prior to the service on Tuesday and other times at the home, 1275 NC 55 East, Coats, NC 27521.
