Benson, NC: Mr. Rupert Edward Stewart, Sr., age 93, of 9753 NC Hwy 27 passed away Tuesday at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Saturday at Benson Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Glenn McCullen and Rev. Curtiss Tatum. Burial will follow in Hodges Chapel Church Cemetery.Mr. Stewart was born on November 17, 1923 in Johnston County to the late Charlie and Nettie Lee Stewart. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary McLamb Stewart; sons, Rupert E. "Buddy" Stewart, Jr. and William Keith Stewart; sisters, Leola Weeks, Goldie Denning and Myrle McLamb; and brothers, Otha Stewart and Ernest Stewart. Mr. Stewart was a farmer and a butcher by trade. He was a member of Hodges Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, a Sunday School teacher, and held many positions in the church over the years.Surviving are daughter & son-in-law, Linda & Braxton Allen of Benson; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Stewart Mabry of Angier; grandchildren & spouses, Bethany A. Hale of Benson, Susan Allen of Benson, Michelle A. & Jeremy Keene of Four Oaks, Ashley & Tobitha Stewart of Landis, NC, and Jeffrey & Cheryl Stewart of Benson; great grandchildren, William Gavin Keene, Ella Grace Keene, and Owen Grant Keene; very special friend, Janice Barefoot of Benson; and several nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 8:00PM Friday at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Benson.Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to the W.
