Coats, NC:Sandra "Sandy" Poole Trodgon, age 76, formerly of 606 N. Orange Street, Coats, NC. died
Friday, March 1, 2019, at UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Sandy was born on November 7th, 1942 to the late D. Lentis and Inez Poole of Coats.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, David Lee and William Fate Trogdon.
Sandy was employed as Office Manager for 15 yrs at National Cash Register (NCR) in Cary, NC
before managing the office and retiring from Ateb, Inc (now Omnicell), in Raleigh. Although her
later years were spent in the big city of Raleigh, Sandy never lost her Coats small-town country
charm…she called you “Shug” and ate black-eyed peas on New Year’s Day. Though slight of
build, Sandy was known to throw a mean bowling ball while a member of several bowling
leagues. She loved doing “puzzle” books and had many spirited conversations with her cousin
Kay about “who dun it” in the hundreds of mystery books they shared. Sandy was very soft
spoken and gentle, but was ferociously protective of her grand-daughters, Logan and Amanda.
Anyone who met Sandy soon learned of her love of anything “Smiley-Face” -long before “Smiley
Face” was called an emoji. The fact that a simple :) could bring joy is a testament to Sandy’s
character -she didn’t want or need fancy, expensive things to make her happy or to share that
happiness with others -just a smiley face and the love of her family and friends. Her ability to
just listen -without judgement or unwanted advice; her ability to give without expectation; her
genuine smile at receiving a smiley face trinket, will be sorely missed by all who loved her.
Survivors include her son, Robert Lentis Trogdon of Laurinburg, NC; granddaughters Amanda
Trogdon and Logan Trogdon both of Raleigh, NC; six great grandchildren: Emerson and
Avalena Caggiano, Owen Downing, Aurora-Rose and Adeila-Marie Lopez, all of Raleigh, NC, and
Caiton Guy of Coats; special cousins Kay Stephens and Harold Lloyd of Coats; loving and loved
companion of 40+ years, Robert "Bob" Ivey.
