Shirley Crockett, 77, of Angier, NC, went to be with her Lord and Savior for eternal rest surrounded by loving family and friends on March 15, 2013, after a courageous battle against cancer. Graveside Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Smithfield, NC. Officiating will be Mr. Steven Lassiter.
Shirley was born January 14, 1936, in Johnston County, NC, to the late Robelia and Eugene F. O’Neal. She attended Corinth Holder High School and remained in Johnston County until 1961 where she eventually married her childhood sweetheart, the late William Perry Wall. Together they moved to Hampton, VA, where they started a family. In Hampton, Shirley opened her own business, LaSalle Beauty Salon, a successful venture she cherished and nurtured for twelve years. Later, Shirley moved to Hallwood, VA, where she was a member of Hallwood Methodist Church and where she provided personal hair care for home-bound residents. She lived out her later years in Angier.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Jesse Crockett; sisters, Mary Andrews and Linda Lou O’Neal; and brother, Billy Wayne O’Neal.
Shirley leaves a son, Perry Duane Wall and wife, Brenda, of Angier, NC; sisters Pearl O’Neal of Wendell, NC; Imogene Wilson of Smithfield, NC; and Carolyn Gower of Wilson’s Mills, NC; and brothers Charles O’Neal of Harker’s Island, NC; Bobby O’Neal of Wendell, NC; Lynwood O’Neal of Zebulon, NC; two grandchildren, Heather and Michael, and one great grandchild Kaleigh, of Williamsburg, VA, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family extends a heart-felt thank you to her extended family, friends and neighbors for their visits, friendship, and assistance they provided Shirley in her time of need. They also extend a very special thank you to the staff and volunteers of Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, NC, for their loving and comforting care in her final days.
Family will receive friends at Rose and Graham Funeral Home, Four Oaks on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 6:00PM - 8:00PM and other times at the home of Duane and Brenda Wall 112 Polly Circle, Angier, NC 27501.
