Smithfield, NC: Mrs. Thelma Mae Baker Snead, age 87, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 11, 2019 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM, Sunday, July 14, 2019 at Rose & Graham Funeral Chapel in Four Oaks. Officiating will be Revs. Percy Coleman and Eugene Worley. Entombment will follow at Antioch United Methodist Church Cemetery outside Four Oaks, NC.
Mrs. Snead was born on October 13, 1931 in Johnston County to the late Lonnie and Lillie Stanley Baker. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Wright Snead, sisters, Illa Capps, Ella Turner, and Merle LeGrand; brothers, Leamon Baker and Albert Baker. Mrs. Snead was a retired farmer and homemaker. She loved and cared for children in her home for many years. Her hobbies included sewing and making Christmas pillows and aprons for gifts. She also enjoyed cooking when she was able. Her homemade biscuits were the best. She loved to sing with her husband Howard at church and also with her sister, Merle. Mrs. Snead was a member of New Beginnings Presbyterian Church in Pine Level.
Survivors include her children, William Ronnie Snead of Smithfield; Donnie Snead and wife, Nancy of Fayetteville; Betty Jean Whitley and husband, Ricky of Smithfield and Billy Glenn Snead and wife, Linda of Princeton; grandchildren, Brandy Patterson and husband, Kevin; Jackie Nichols and husband, Chris; Kelly Whitley and fiancé David Johnson; Brandon Whitley and wife, Ashley; Wendy Dale and husband, Michael; and Jessica Westbrook; eleven great-grandchildren; many loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 6:00 PM-8:00 PM Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Four Oaks and other times at the home of Betty Jean Whitley, 1555 Yelverton Grove Road, Smithfield, NC 27577.
