Verlene Holmes Barbour

                 Mrs. Verlene Holmes Barbour, age 90, of Clayhole Road, passed away on Monday, January 31, 2022 at Central Harnett Hospital in Lillington, NC. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM-Thursday, February 3, 2022 at Prospect Free Will Baptist Church in Dunn, NC. Burial will follow at Harnett Devotional Gardens in Dunn. Officiating will be Rev. Brian Cameron.

            Mrs. Barbour was born on August 19, 1931 in Harnett County to the late Elijah Lester and Hettie Mae Stone Holmes. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Randall Barbour; great granddaughter, Madison Elizabeth Johnson; brothers, Mack Holmes, Roy Holmes, Thomas Holmes, and Doc Holmes; and sister, Jean Norris. Mrs. Barbour worked for Erwin Mills for many years prior to retirement. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend who enjoyed gardening, especially planting her collards every year.

            Surviving include her daughters, Kathey Jernigan and husband, Timothy, Teresa Matthews and husband James, and Donna Muncus; grandchildren, Jeffrey Denning, Daniel McLeod, Casey Johnson, and Hannah Deans; great grandchildren, Joshua Denning, Jacob Denning, Scott McLeod, Kathryn McLeod, Leighann McLeod, Taylor Johnson, Jeremiah Johnson, Mitchell Denning, and Judah Deans; sister, Diane Matthews and husband, Royster; brother-in-law, Bobby Norris; special friends, Bobby and Gerri Byrd; and several nieces and nephews.

            There will be an open-door visitation from 12:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Wednesday at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Coats, NC. The family will not be present at this time; however, they will receive friends following the committal service at Harnett Devotional Gardens.

            Flowers are welcomed.

In accordance with NC-COVID -19 guidelines, the funeral home suggests practicing social distancing guidelines and the three W's: wait, wash, and wear a face covering. Masks are not required but kindly recommended.
