Vernie Wood

Benson, NC: Mrs. Vernie May Wood, age 76, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2020 at UNC Johnston Health in Smithfield.  A Private Graveside Service will be held at the Morgan-Wood Family Cemetery. Rev. Randy Beasley will officiate.                 Mrs. Wood was born on November 29, 1943 in Johnston County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin A. “Teny” Wood and her maternal grandparents, Raymond and Hettie Jackson.  Mrs. Wood was a retired seamstress and was a member of Lee’s Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, Dunn, NC.                  Surviving include her daughters, Norma Jean Wood; Linda Wood Benson and husband, Gary all of Benson; sons, Tony Melvin Wood and wife, Mattie of Four Oaks and Johnnie Dean Wood and wife, Amber of Virginia Beach; three very special grandchildren, Randy Wood, Logan Wood and Ryan Osborne.                    In lieu of flowers; the family suggests memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Johnston County Chapter, 8300 Health Park Drive, Suite 10, Raleigh, NC 27615.             Due to the current health concerns the family understands you are not able to join them for the graveside service. Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated.
