She lived in Benson and married my father Henry Monroe Johnson to whom she dearly dedicated her love. They moved to many states and finally resided in Chesapeake, Virginia where my father acquired a job at Nu Car Carriers hauling Fords out of the Ford Manufacturing plant in Norfolk, Virginia. She studied and became an RN in the ICU at Norfolk General Hospital. She was also a skilled seamstress. My father retired in 1970 and started Henry Johnson Tire Company with my mother by his side. They built 18 tire stores in 10 years and were successful in the 70’s and 80’s. They sold their business in 1986 and moved to Naples Florida where together they retired. My mother was dedicated to my father until the day he passed away in 2004. She loved and was kind to everyone she met with her gentle spirit. In 1950 she became a Christian and taught Sunday school for more than a decade. She was a good and faithful servant to the Lord. Everywhere she went she witnessed to people and left bible tracts. She was the rock of our family. Her wisdom, love, gentleness, goodness exceeded them all. She was called blessed in the family by all. She was a perfect Proverbs 31 woman. She worked right up through her 90th birthday in her son’s business and was fluent with computers. Her mind was as sharp up until the Lord called her home. She lived independently at her home in Bonita Springs, Florida. She drove her car everywhere, still kept up with her yard work and her home. Her strength stayed with her up to her last few days. She will be remembered by those who came in contact with her as a sweet woman. She is survived by five siblings, Mary Ellen Johnson, Sue Hall, William Capps, Raeford Capps, and Mike Capps. She has two children, Gloria Jean Thompson married to David F. Thompson and Richard A. Johnson married to Rosie A. Johnson. She has four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
The earth is poorer without her but Heaven has increased. I know I speak for the family when I say our mother blessed us. This mother’s day she is with the Lord, and I am comforted by this thought. I love you momma.
