Four Oaks, NC: Mr. William Charles "Bill" Mitchell, age 76, of 200 Boyette Rd died Monday November 14, 2016 in the comfort of his home, where he wanted to be, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held 11:00AM Thursday November 17, 2016 at the Steven's Chapel OFW Baptist Church in Benson. Officiating will be Rev. Pete Radford. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Mitchell was born on August 7, 1940 in Johnston County to the late Charles Aaron Mitchell and Florence Mitchell Boykin. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Evelyn Creech. Mr. Mitchell was a retired paving contractor with Gelder and Associates. He was a member of Steven's Chapel OFW Baptist Church where he was very active. He was a Sunday School teacher, choir member, and a lay speaker. Mr. Mitchell played the guitar and sang may special solos. He enjoyed the competition of a good NASCAR race. Mr. Mitchell preached his own funeral by the way he lived his life each day so that others would see Jesus in him. He was also a US Army Veteran.
Mr. Mitchell was survived by his wife, Gwen Stewart Mitchell of Four Oaks; sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy and Bill Stewart of Four Oaks; Sue Weldon of Four Oaks; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Patsy Mitchell of Four Oaks, George and Ginger Mitchell of California; sons and daughter-in-law, Brett and Anna Mitchell of Zebulon, David Mitchell of Florida; daughters and son-in-law, Shelby and Brian Daniel of Four Oaks, Kristi Mitchell of Tennessee; nine grandchildren, Ashlie, Spencer, Matthew, Dylan, Olivia, Nicole, Will, Leila, and Hope; three great-grandchildren, Liam, Joe, and Adalin; two step-grandchildren, Samantha and Rachel all of Colorado; five step great-grandchildren, Jenna, Aiden, Alaric, Jaylene, and ZyKeriyah all of Colorado; several beloved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday November 16, 2016 at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Four Oaks and other times at the home.
The family wants to thank Waynel, Karen, Val, Keisha, Kasi, Laurie, April, and Chaplin Brian of Pruitt Hospice, for the care and concern shown to Bill these past weeks.
